Four Chinese nationals and one Zambian have been detained for allegedly disobeying a mining suspension order.
According to reports, despite being told to stop, the suspects proceeded to mine manganese in the area.
When GODFREY CHITAMBALA, the deputy permanent secretary for the Central Province, called on Mkushi District Commissioner JONATHAN KAPUNGWE, he confirmed the news.
According to Mr. KAPUNGWE, the district administration went on the scene to check after the suspension and discovered the suspects disobeying the order.
He has indicated that the flow of effluent into the Chibefwe River, which serves as the only water source for the people of Mkushi, is the result of unlawful mining activity.
According to Mr. CHITAMBALA, the government won’t entertain those who pose as investors without respecting the law
