It never rains in South Africa, but it pours for former board chairperson Dudu Myeni, who is due in court today in Johannesburg Magistrate Court on a plethora of charges.
Myeni, who was also the board chairperson of Mhlathuze Water in KwaZulu-Natal, was deemed a delinquent director by life Judge Ronel Tolmay of the High Court in Pretoria in May 2020.
She was then asked to resign from all of her directorships. Myeni, on the other hand, is appealing the ruling, claiming that the enforcement order will do her irreparable injury and that the presiding judge left no room for Myeni’s appeal.

She will appear in court on Tuesday morning, facing three accusations stemming from her testimony before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry, during which she exposed the identify of a witness.
Raymond Zondo, the commission’s chairperson, had requested that the witness’s name be kept anonymous in order to protect him. Myeni is charged with violating the Commission’s Act, the Commission’s Regulations, and subverting the ends of justice.
During Myeni’s November 2020 hearing, Commission evidence leader Advocate Kate Hofmeyr cautioned Myeni against disclosing the identify of a witness known only as Mr. X.
In one of her responses Myeni said: “First maybe, I do not know. I did not hear myself whether I said his name or not. One, it was disbelief. Two, it was an emotion that came with it, and feeling betrayed. I apologise. If I’ve said it again.”
While at the helm of the Mhlathuze Water Board, Mr X accused Myeni of being a key mover in corruption agreements, stating that he witnessed bags of money being transferred.
