Second runner-up in Big Brother Season 3 Themba Mabaso, also known as The Ghost, released his first EP today at midnight alongside DJ Tira, who has taken him under his wing since he left the competitive reality show. The fan favorite dropped a three-track EP featuring The Qwabe Twins, Skye Wanda, Prince Bulo, and DJ Tira himself. It’s a self-titled dance EP issued by Afrotainment, with whom he’s also signed.
The Ghost has had a very good few weeks since his eviction from Big Brother Mzansi’s finale, from being dressed by veteran fashion designer David Tlale at the launch of Rich Housewives of Lagos to growing his social media following and fandom in such a short period of time and now monetizing his talents and finally pursuing his musical career. The Ghost, as a star, is not going down without a fight.
He originally hinted at a new release last week during an Instagram live in studio with DJ Tira and The Qwabe Twins’ Viggy and Virginia.
Themba’s fans, known as The Ghost Nation, have been downloading and streaming the EP on all streaming platforms in the hopes of propelling him to the top of the charts. It appears that the EP will do well given their commitment to supporting the reality television star, who will also be co-hosting at the Afrotaiment Marquee alongside DJ Tira, Bontle Modiselle, Tbo Touch, and Naak Musiq at the Durban July in two months, where he will perform some, if not all, of the songs on the EP.
Since its release a few hours ago, the hashtag #GHostEP has dominated the Twitter trends list since the day began, with over 41 thousand tweets associated with it. The celebrity has also been interviewed by the country’s largest radio stations, beginning with Metro FM’s The Touch Down last week and continuing with Ukhozi FM’s breakfast show this morning. He’s also had his song “Uyangifaka” played on both stations on the day it was released, which is something not every artist achieves this early in their career.
