The United Kingdom government has slammed the consulting firm Bain with a contract ban in the country, citing the company’s role in state capture in South Africa. Bain had reportedly colluded with former president Jacob Zuma and Tom Moyane, the former SARS (South African Revenue Service) boss, to capture the agency.

Bain’s former managing partner Vittorio Massone had multiple meetings with the former president with a view to restructuring the SARS and gaining a foothold in it. The United Kingdom government slammed the international consulting firm with a three-year ban for its alleged role in the SARS capture.

The banning of the company was reportedly at the instance of Lord Peter Hain, a former UK cabinet minister with robust links to South Africa. The former minister claimed that employees in the London office of Bain colluded with former president Jacob Zuma. Reacting to the three-year ban imposed on the company by the government, Bain said he’s pleased with it.

Lord Hain’s position was shared by the UK Cabinet Office minister Jacob Rees-Mogg, who noted in a letter that the company’s integrity was now questionable. Jacob Rees-Mogg also expressed the hope that in three years, Bain would have restored its reputation.
