Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane is wary of Cape Town City’s desire for a first win this season as Amakhosi clash with the Citizens on Wednesday night.

Eric Tinkler’s troops have lost three and drawn two of their five DStv Premiership matches to date while Amakhosi have played four games, with a ‘won two and lost two’ record

Zwane is aware that City will be out to play for maximum points, but the Glamour Boys are also looking to maintain their winning run after they triumphed against Richards Bay over the past weekend.

ZWANE ON CAPE TOWN CITY’S CLASH

“It’s not an easy game because City have done well and want that first win, and for any team, there’s no bigger occasion than to get it against Chiefs,” Zwane told Kaizer Chiefs website.

“We are aware of this and will do our best to make sure we put a smile on our supporters’ faces.”

In other news, Zwane has insisted that his side wasn’t desperate for an out-and-out striker despite signing one in Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana.

Amakhosi have been hunting a striker since the pre-season began following the exits of Leonardo Castro and Samir Nurkovic in June.

Amakhosi unveiled the Burundian forward on Thursday after he impressed during his three-week trial at Naturena.

Zwane says they delayed signing him because they were still considering other options.

“We spent three weeks with Caleb [Bimenyimana] and we were impressed but we didn’t want to rush into things because we were still looking,” Zwane told journalists at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“We are avoiding a situation of this quick-fix thing that you maybe bring in a player because of maybe desperation, we’re not desperate.

“You could even see today, yes even if we didn’t have number 9 but we look we can come up with something and our players as well they must know that we gonna have to improvise because there will be games where you have number 9, he gets the red card and what do you do.

“Gone are those days of number 9s, once you have a front three, any of the front three can play as a number 9 or one of them can play as a false 9 because that’s where the game is going when you look at all the top teams.

“And yah, we believe that Caleb [Bimenyimana] is gonna help us because he is the type of the striker, when you want him on top he does that, when you want him as maybe number 10, he has the quality to help us.

“That’s why we had to wait for the right moment and be sure as to whether he’s the right player for us.”
