“On Saturday 28 August 2021 at around 06:00, the Retrak vehicle recovery team picked up a tracking signal that the hijacked white Toyota Hilux double cab bakkie was stationary in Zonkizizwe, Ekurhuleni at that time.”
Makhubele said the vehicle was reported as hijacked on Friday, 27 August 2021, at Dawn Park SAPS.
“As the recovery team was making its way to the location, they picked up another tracking signal that the hijacked vehicle was now moving, and they started following the hijacked vehicle’s movements until they attempted to intercept the hijacked vehicle along the R554 road.”
He said the occupants of the hijacked vehicle attempted to push the recovery team’s vehicle off the road forcing the recovery team to fire warning shots.
