Ekhurhuleni mayor Tania Campbell has dubbed the Tembisa protests as a well-orchestrated operation to make the township ungovernable.

Two protesters were shot and killed in the violent Tembisa protest by midday on Monday. It is believed that several vehicles have been set alight and that the Customer Care Center was also torched.

Five children passengers, aged between ten and eighteen, died when their car burst into flames on the R721 in Vredefort, Free State. This HORRIFIC accident happened on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, 259 rhinos were poached between January and June 2022 – 10 more than the 249 animals killed in the first half of 2021.


Former South African public protector Prof Thuli Madonsela has been selected as one of the judges for Miss South Africa 2022.

A cold front and light thundershowers are expected for parts of South Africa this week.

Tembisa protests orchestrated to make township ungovernable – Mayor

Ekurhuleni mayor Tania Campbell has dubbed the Tembisa protests as a well-orchestrated operation to make the township ungovernable.

Residents have been demonstrating over the high utility rates and electricity bills. The protests quickly turned violent and at least two people have been killed. One of them is reportedly killed allegedly at the hands of Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD).

The community accuses the mayor of not wanting to engage with them.

Watch as another protester was reportedly shot and killed in the violent Thembisa protest bringing the death toll to two by midday on Monday. Earlier a protester was shot and killed while the police station was set alight.

It is believed that several vehicles have been set alight and that the Customer Care Center was also torched.

Metro police spokesperson Kelebogile Thipa told the media Campbell was supposed to meet with residents and give feedback on their memorandum of demands.

“The residents expressed dissatisfaction after her no-show and took to the street to protest.“The mayor sent other city officials to address the masses, but discussions collapsed, and Intel gathered that 1 August 2022 Tembisa will be ‘shutdown’.”Kelebogile Thipa

 

 

Five CHILDREN burnt to death in HORRIFIC accident on R721

Five children passengers, aged between ten and eighteen, died when their car burst into flames on the R721 in Vredefort, Free State. This HORRIFIC accident happened on Sunday evening.

According to NetCare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst, paramedics responded to the accident at 19H24 on Sunday evening.

“Reports indicate that a truck and car were involved in a collision. It was alleged that the driver of the car with five children as occupants had pulled off to the side of the road.”Shawn Herbst

Herbst said paramedics found a massive inferno when they arrived on the scene.

 

 

259 rhinos poached in first half of 2022 – this province is the new hotspot

The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DFFE) revealed that 259 rhinos had been poached in the first six months of 2022, on Monday, 1 August.

Barbara Creecy’s Ministry said 10 more rhinos were poached between January and June 2022 than the 249 poached countrywide during the same period last year.

During the first half of 2022, 82 out of 259 rhinos were poached for their horns in Kruger National Park. According to the department, 210 rhinos were poached on state property, while private parks recorded 49 losses.



Prof Thuli Madonsela will be judging Miss South Africa 2022

Former South African public protector Prof Thuli Madonsela has been selected as one of the judges for Miss South Africa 2022.

As Miss South Africa 2022 finale draws closer, the organising committee announced the panel of judges, which included the advocate and Professor of law.

“The first phenomenal woman on our panel is former South African public protector professor Thulisile Madonsela. She is an advocate and professor of law who has held a chair in social justice at Stellenbosch University since January 2018,” Miss SA announced.

 

 

Cold front and light thundershowers predicted for week – here is the latest

A cold front and light thundershowers are expected for parts of South Africa this week.

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), light thundershowers are expected on Monday for parts of the Northern Cape.

A cold front is expected later this week along the Western Cape that will move into the Eastern Cape and make landfall along the South Coast by Friday.
