Herman Mashaba, the head of ActionSA, has spoken out about Operation Dudula chief Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini’s arrest and release, saying it’s sad to see him in jail while “true criminals” rule the country. After being detained last week in connection with the accused ransacking of EFF member Victor Ramerafe’s Soweto house, Dlamini was given R1,500 bail on Monday. Lux’s name was listed on the charge sheet as Ntlantla Mohlauli, not Nhlanhla Dlamini, as he is known in the public. Speaking to 702, Mashaba said he was “hurt” to see Dlamini in jail while “real criminals are sitting in parliament and cabinet”. “These are the people who are supposed to be in jail,” he added. Mashaba also raised concerns about the conditions surrounding the arrest and bail hearings, calling them “very disgusting.” Mashaba scoffed aside claims that he is sponsoring Operation Dudula, saying he last spoke to Dlamini in 2019. “I admire what they do, the only concern that I have — and I am on record as saying — is that ‘guys, please be careful. Your cause is a just cause, but please avoid the situation where you take the law into your own hands’,” he said. Mashaba has stated that while South Africans have every right to be annoyed by illegal immigration, their rage should be directed against the ANC. He urged citizens to prefer the rule of law over anarchy at all times. Mashaba has been accused of xenophobia, which he and his party have refuted. Last year, he assured his followers that ActionSA’s stance on illegal immigration had been “misunderstood” and “mischaracterized.”
