The Wife has been confirmed for a third season, putting to rest speculation around the longevity of Showmax‘s flagship soap drama.

The development of the third season has been shrouded with controversy, and most of all, rumours of a cast overhaul. Careful to not say much about what characters fans can expect, the production company responsible for the popular soap drama Stained Glass confirmed the show’s “principal actors have been confirmed to be part of The Wife for season 3.”

The principal cast members in question, according to reports, are Gaisang Noge (Naledi) and Kwenzo Ngcobo (Qhawe).

“We are in the pre-production phase that includes the contracting process for all cast and crew. Stained Glass, the cast and crew can’t wait to bring viewers a formidable third season. Inspired by Dudu Busani-Dube’s best-selling book,” the production company noted in a statement to Tshisa Live.

Driving speculation on the cast is renowned SA TV microblogger Phil Mphela who, in a series of tweets, claimed these actors are rumoured to be leaving The Wife in the third season.

When will the show premiere?

Stained Glass confirmed that at this juncture, The Wife is still in pre-production. It is unclear when filming will take place, but from what has been confirmed, the Showmax telenovela will return to the streaming platform no later than November 2022.

“S3 of The Wife will return to SA screens in November 2022,” the production company confirmed.
