Amid the plague of criticisms surrounding his handling of the Phala Phala farm heist and the mass call for his resignation, President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to visit NMB for the Mandela Day celebration. For the occasion, the president will join other politicos, including Water and Sanitation Minister, Senzo Mchunu, Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, and the Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, Eugene Johnson.

With other politicos in tow, the president will lead the inspection of the Nooitgedacht Water Treatment Works site, as well as a clean-up of the Swartkops River in Veeplaas. Details of the president’s itinerary are not out there, but it’s expected heavy security would accompany him, given the current strident opposition against his continued stay in power. President Ramaphosa has been a subject of intense public scrutiny following the revelation that he’d tried to cover up a robbery that took place at the president’s farm in 2020 in which millions of were reportedly stolen.

Former police chief Arthur Fraser had made the revelation following his exit from the force. He provided CCTV footage to back up his claim. Since then, arrows of criticism have been crashing on Ramaphosa’s head. And it doesn’t appear they will stop soon.
