Advocate Malesela Teffo, a former defence counsel in the trial of five men accused of murdering Senzo Meyiwa, has accused Presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela of witchcraft.
Teffo withdrew as legal counsel for accused 1–4 on July 12, 2022, alleging harassment from the Judge and the State. He also claimed that a plot was formed at the Presidency office to get him off the Meyiwa murder case; he has now reversed his decision to resign from representing defendants 1 – 4.
Following Teffo’s unexpected withdrawal, the trial was postponed to August 2, 2022, to ensure that accused 1 – 4 have legal counsel before the main trial starts on September 6, 2022.
Teffo has written to the Pretoria High Court and the State Prosecutor, stating that he has subsequently settled his withdrawal problem with the key parties in the matter, and that he is still the defence counsel for accused 1 – 4 and will be in court on August 2.
