Four police officers from Lusaka are now behind bars thanks to the saying “Mwilabika ubwalwa mufyabupuba” (Don’t include alcohol in dumb things). One of them is accused of killing a 20-year-old guy with a knife after he stole some beer bottles from their table.
Moses Theu is thought to have gone out drinking on Friday of last week at the Mimos nightclub inside the Lilayi Police College, and after stealing some beer bottles from the four suspects’ table, he got into a fight with them.
One of the suspects is then accused of stabbing Theu in the neck with a shattered bottle.
Rae Hamoonga, the spokeswoman for the Zambian police, stated that Chilanga police station is looking into a case of suspected murder in which Esther Sakala claimed her son Theu was killed.
“Brief facts are that on July 8,2022 the deceased was drinking beer at Mimos Night club within Lilayi. Whilst at the night club he picked up a quarrel with four male persons who were seated on their table drinking beer. The quarrel ensued after the deceased got some bottles of beer from their table. The deceased was later stabbed by one of male persons using a broken bottle of beer.The Deceased sustained a cut on the left side of the neck. He was then rushed to chawama Hospital for treatment where he was admitted, but later died,” HE stated
“The suspects are all police officers stationed at Lilayi police college and one among the four is stationed at Chawama police station. These are Inspector Febian Palata, Constables Lewis Mufwempa and James Mfula.The trio are from Lilayi and the fourth suspect Detective Constable Mulonda Mukelabai is from Chawama police station,” He added
The accused are still being held in police custody, according to Mr. Hamoonga.
