A 14-year-old child who was shot by his grandfather over the weekend was successfully treated by medical professionals at Kitwe Teaching Hospital after the bullet was successfully removed from his neck.

However, despite no longer being in danger, the boy is still being treated in the hospital, according to Senior Medical Superintendent Dr. Abidan Chansa, so that general and dental surgeons can evaluate whether or not he has to be examined by plastic surgeons at the university teaching hospital.
And according to Dr. Chansa, the second victim, the mother of the 14-year-old son who was also shot by the same attacker, has been released from the hospital after successfully undergoing treatment for
a chest wound caused by a gunshot.
Speaking after visiting the child, Kitwe District Commissioner Lawrence Mwanza praised the hospital’s medical staff for removing the bullet effectively and expressed his joy that the boy’s successful operation was a testament to the abilities and dedication of the local medical professionals.

Last Saturday, a 61-year-old father from Kitwe’s Cha Cha Cha neighborhood named Isaac Gondwe allegedly shot his daughter, 26, and grandson, 14, before killing himself by shooting himself in the mouth.
A sizable crowd was present for Mr. Gondwe’s burial yesterday at Chingola Road Cemetery.
