BBC- The Supreme Court of Kenya will hold a pre-trial hearing on applications that would have the presidential election results thrown out.

Last week, nine petitions were submitted to challenge William Ruto’s victory.
The court will reach a ruling by Monday after the meeting and compile a list of the problems it will address.
They consist of the question of whether Mr. Ruto was legally declared the election’s victor by electoral commission head Wafula Chebukati.

It will also take into account the differences in the commission’s factions, one of which is arguing for the annulment of the election and the other for its upholding.
Seven judges who will rule over the petition resulting from the elections on August 9 will be present at the meeting.
Before presiding over the pre-trial conference, the judges will give preliminary findings on a number of different matters.

The petition submitted by Mr. Ruto’s rival, Raila Odinga, calls for the removal of certain election commission employees as parties.
The justices will decide whether to approve Mr. Odinga’s coalition’s request for instructions for the inspection and counting of votes.
They will also make decisions about requests from several people and organizations to be admitted as “friends of the court,” which allows them to provide information to the court although they are not parties to the case.
To reduce the number of individuals physically present in the courtroom and to allow the public to follow arguments, the proceedings will be broadcast live on television.
