The musician DJ Sumbody’s family are struggling to come to terms with his passing and were seen at the scene of the crime with police on the weekend (20 November) to collect his spirit.

Briefly reports that the amapiano producer’s family went to collect his spririt as this is a spiritual practice where many believe that the spirit of the dead must be collected from the place of death to ensure the deceased can rest peacefully, especially if they died violently.

The Gauteng police have confirmed that two people were gunned down in the province in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said they received a complaint of a shooting incident on the corners of Woodmead Drive and Woodland Drive.

This happened at around 00:30, he said.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police found two people inside a VW Golf with gunshot wounds.

Both victims, a driver and a passenger, were certified dead on the scene.”

A third person was also shot during the incident.

Masondo said this person was driving a BMW X5.

He was taken to the nearest medical care centre for treatment of the gunshot wounds.

The DJ’s aunt Motlakaladi Moshidi told Daily Sun that the family is heartbroken over their son’s death.

“We are heartbroken. Our wounds will never heal.

The person who did this, did it out of jealousy.

His mother was shattered when she was talking on the phone.”

Moshidi adds that she loved listening to her nephew’s music as he was respectful and loved his family.

According to the family, details of his death cannot be released but he “ran into an unfortunate incident that led to his passing”, said family spokesperson Mmanake Mokitimi.

“Details surrounding his passing cannot be disclosed as investigations are still ongoing.

The Sefoka family and Sumsounds Music Management have kindly requested privacy during this difficult time and will release a statement in due course.

Details of the funeral and memorial service will be confirmed,” Mokitimi said.
