Nine manganese mining companies in Serenje have had their operations terminated by the government due to license revocation.

Since then, the nine have been told to stop processing manganese with charcoal.
The mining companies have also been instructed by Minister of the Green Economy COLLINS NZOVU to implement dust-suppressing measures.
The nine businesses have additionally been mandated by Mr. NZOVU to install continuous online and real-time air monitoring equipment and report data to the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) every six months.

Additionally, Mr. NZOVU has mandated that six mining companies in the Mkushi district stop processing manganese due to the damaging consequences of their operations on the environment.
Additionally, Mr. NZOVU has mandated that the six make good on the environmental damage they caused by disobeying ZEMA rules.
He claims that the restoration efforts will involve reforestation, cleaning up the Chibefwe Stream, and restoring the deteriorated terrain.

According to Mr. NZOVU, the expansion of illegal mining operations in Serenje and Mkushi could have a variety of negative effects on the environment.
The Minister has also expressed sadness that certain international mining companies have chosen to violate the requirements of their licenses, betraying the trust Zambians placed in them.
