Ten persons have been detained by Kitwe police for stealing 201 mattresses that were in transit.

On Sunday, when a trailer plugged off a truck, some Kitwe villagers rushed to steal beds.
Ten persons have subsequently been taken into custody in relation to the heist, according to Copperbelt province commanding officer Sharon Zulu.
She claimed that 70 mattresses have been found since then.

“The incident happened on July 17 this year near the Rail Crossing opposite St Anthony Compound Kitwe in which Clement Katungu aged 52, of of Kabushi in Ndola reported that some residents of St. Anthony and Kandabwe Compound stole 201 mattress in different sizes at the same place after the trailer’s hook plugged off from the truck and flipped side wards. This attracted the unruly residents from the nearby Townships and looted the mattresses. The stolen mattresses are all valued at K184,153, 153 property of U-Rest Foam Company of Ndola,” she said.
Ten people have been detained, according to Mrs. Zulu, and recoveries are still proceeding.
According to her, those detained include Joseph Kalale, 42, of number 95 Twatasha, as well as John Kabuswe, 27, of house number 1495 Bulangililo, Roswell Chishimba, 30, of house number 1495 Bulangililo, and Aaron Jere, 25, of house number 2333 Chimwemwe.

Others, according to her, include Joseph Sakala of No Fixed Abode, Joseph Daka, 38, of an unmarked house number, Joseph Kabwe, 18, of a house with the number 1495 in Bulangililo, Geshom Chibesa, 40, of a house with the number 1145 in Luangwa, Saviour Musonda, 30, of an unmarked house number, and Chola Dewine, 19, of a house with the number 1495 in Bulang
