The Anti Corruption Commission has been notified by UPND youths in the Copper Belt that several candidates running in the Kabushi and Kwacha Constituency by-elections reportedly accepted payments to withdraw from the race and request for new nominations.
Since then, WALLEN HINYAMA, the chairperson of the UPND Copperbelt Youth, has urged the ACC to look into the situation and identify those who may be responsible.
In spite of the fact that every candidate has the constitutional right to resign when they so choose, Mr. Hiyyama stated during a media conference in Kitwe that it is improper for candidates to accept bribes.
Additionally, KANGWA KAMANDO, vice chair of the UPND Copperbelt Youth, said that certain political parties running in the two by-elections are only being used as proxies for candidates to withdraw and request new nominations.
