The delayed implementation of public-private partnership projects in the field of road construction has been lamented by the Zambia Association for Citizen Contractors (ZACCO).
Danny Simumba, the general secretary of the association, is pleading with the government to develop a plan as soon as possible to repair crumbling roads and other transportation facilities.
According to Mr. Simumba, the nation’s roadways have rapidly deteriorated and require immediate attention.
He argues that because many young people can be engaged through such projects, the restoration of the roads not only helps the government’s aim of restructuring the economy but also has a trickle-down impact on the construction business.
He adds that the economy cannot be transformed without a proper road network and that a poor road network is costly to all industries that depend on it.
