Several Kaizer Chiefs fans have been calling for Khune to be selected, but Zwane has explained that he simply isn’t as fit and ready as the other goalkeepers at the club.

“Itu has been doing well at training just like all the other keepers but he obviously needed to be at a certain level for him to be ready to play,” said Arthur Zwane, as quoted by SowetanLIVE.

“The other keepers are ahead of him in terms of fitness levels and state of readiness.

“He’s been working very hard on and off the field. He’s got his own personal trainer, which is something we encourage… it shows discipline and that he takes his career very, very seriously.

“We’re creating competition within the squad. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past… What is very key is who can help the team now.”

One can only wonder what Khune thinks about being told he isn’t match-fit.

The 35-year-old veteran appears to be in excellent shape judging by pictures on his social media accounts as well as those of the club’s.

Kaizer Chiefs are currently eighth in the DStv Premiership standings with six points after four matches.

They will next be in action away against bottom-of-the-table Cape Town City FC on Tuesday, 23 August.

Kick-off at the Cape Town Stadium is scheduled for 19:30.
