The nominees for the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards were announced on Monday 12 September with Canadian rapper Drake leading the pack. South African rappers Nadia Nakai and Blxckie have scored nominations in the Best International Flow category alongside the likes of the United Kingdom’s Central Cee and Ghana’s Blxck Sherif.

This year, Drake has received 14 nods ahead of the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards set to take place on Friday 30 September at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta. The rapper has been nominated for Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year and Hip Hop Artist of the Year.

His sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, has been nominated for Hip Hop Album of the Year and his single, Way 2 Sexy, is nominated in the Song of the Year category.

Following closely behind Drake is Kanye West with 10 nominations. Ye has also been nominated for Best Live Performer and Hip Hop Artist of the Year. He scored a nomination for Producer of the Year alongside the likes of Pharrell Williams, Metro Boomin and ATL Jacob.

NADIA NAKAI AND BLXCKIE SCORE NOMINATIONS

The Best International Flow Award was first awarded in 2019 to Ghanian rapper Sarkodie. Mzansi’s Nasty C was also nominated for the award at the time. This year, South African stars Nadia Nakai and Blxckie have scored nods for Best International Flow.

Blxckie is one of SA Hip-Hop’s best breakout stars of 2021. After releasing his debut album, David, Blxckie was instantly a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Since then, he has released hit tracks like Kwenzekile featuring Madumane (DJ Maphorisa) and Hold.

Nadia Nakai, who released her new single Not The Same featuring LucasRaps in July, has wowed SA with tracks like 40 Bars, Practice and Naaa Meaan.
