Cape Town crash: 23 injured after taxi overturns along Nelson Mandela Boulevard

Boulevard outbound was closed along with the right lane in the inbound direction.

Jacobs said 23 people were injured in the crash, three of which are considered seriously hurt. “There are no fatalities at this stage,” he said at 13:15. City of Cape Town Emergency Services are in attendance.

This is a developing story. The South African has reached out to the Western Cape EMS for additional comment, which will be added once received.

In an unrelated incident, on Thursday, 30 June, a MyCiti bus was involved in a crash along Nelson Mandela Boulevard. It was travelling towards Cape Town when it crossed the road barrier and landed on top of another vehicle. Three injured patients were taken to a hospital and there were no fatalities.

“We are grateful that no fatalities have been reported to the City and await further updates about the driver of the vehicle who was trapped under the bus, and the MyCiTi passenger who sustained injuries last night,” said City of Cape Town MayCo Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas.
