“I am the blueprint”, she told The Plug Magazine. Her statement is no surprise because she has truly paved the way for other female Amapiano DJ’s. Known to her family and close friends as Mandisa Radebe and to the rest of the world as DBN Gogo.
This is a powerful black woman that oozes confidence, from wearing bold colours to her captivating theatrical dances during her famous piano sets.
Her career as a DJ has definitely not been an overnight success. Her work ethic is undeniable, from getting her first booking at Homecoming to getting bookings all over the world. In a male dominated industry, she has certainly defied the odds.
Her musical journey started at a young age as she recalls wanting to be a singer. “I was in the choir, I was in a hip-hop dance group, I did ballet… I used to do eisteddfods, I played the recorder, I even started piano lessons”, she continues to tell the magazine.
It took a community of friends and determination to help her hone skills. It was Venom, Deck-Burna and Timo that gave her lessons and taught her the fundamentals of a DJing.The cultural phenomenon Amapiano has been soaring and has changed the lives of many.
