The Loliwe hitmaker was on the verge of losing her townhouse as a result of defaulting on her monthly instalments of R17 665, 40. Nedbank, which had given her a R1.9 million loan, was set to auction off her home to the highest bidder.

After going public and asking for donations, Zahara’s house was saved. The singer had received help from her fans and one major donor; whom she said was a businessman. It has since emerged that it was actually the EFF.
“This tore me apart at first, which is why I spoke about it. I felt like I could have knocked on so many doors but they were closed. But I knew that there would be someone out there who could listen and understand. All the R50 notes, R100, and R1000 I got helped me,” she said at the time.
EFF spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo confirmed that the organisation helped the award-winning singer. “We are not in the business of boasting about the assistance we have given to our people but we can confirm that we have helped Zahara because she was very close to our hearts,” he said.
In a statement on Tuesday, the EFF said the much-loved musician must be remembered as a pioneer in the music industry, who broke through in an industry that often discards women and destroys the lives of those who enter it. “She made her name through talent alone, and her lasting memory in our hearts and minds must be her ability to bring comfort and resonate with the struggles of the poorest of the poor,” read the statement in part. She will be laid to rest on Saturday, 23 December, in East London in the Eastern Cape.
