Amid scrutiny of his personal life, including a recent court order to pay his ex-wife almost half of his monthly earnings, Lebohang Morake aka Lebo M is grateful for his own accomplishment in achieving sobriety from an alcohol addiction.

The famous playwright and composer – whose work includes the soundtrack of Disney’s The Lion King – has been sober for 17 years.

Taking to Facebook, Lebo M celebrated his personal feat.

Posting a picture of himself, Lebo thanked his fans for their encouragement and support. He shared: “My gratitude to you for all your generosity of spirit and support on my 17 years of sobriety. I am eternally grateful”.

He added: “This young man is 17 years sober, alcohol-free today. Blessed and happy”

Speaking in a  Podcast and Chill interview last month, Lebo M revealed one of the main motivations for him to become sober was the death of his son Thembalethu.

The incident led Lebo M to spiral into a deep depression and seek solace in alcohol. But surprisingly, the playwright made several bombshell allegations about his son’s death in the interview.

Lebo M also claimed that an autopsy of the baby revealed that he had been sodomised moments before his death.

Lebo and Nandi are embroiled in a bitter legal battle over royalties for his US theatre production The Lion King. According to Sunday World, a US Supreme Court judge has ordered Lebo to pay R450 000 in Nandi’s legal fees as well as 40% of monthly gross earnings from his work.

Meanwhile, Lebo M has paid tribute to infant son Lethu, who died almost 19 years ago.

Sharing a picture of the baby on what would have been his 20th birthday, Lebo shared: “As you continue to rest in heavenly peace my dearest son Lethu, not a single day passes by without you in our hearts and mind.

“On this, your 20th year since you landed upon us, we miss you and celebrate you …you ascended prematurely. Love, Dad and family”
