Siyabonga Shibe burst into the limelight after playing the role of Qhabanga on SABC1 soapie Uzalo. The Qhabanga character was a crooked Pastor and leader of KwaMashu Kingdom Church (KKC) and married to Gabisile (Baby Cele). He left KwaMashu after killing his wife and throwing her off the bridge; towards his exit, Qhabanga encountered resistance from church members who accused him of conspiring to sell the KKC church to the highest bidder.
Throughout his tenure as a church leader, he had to fight Pastor Mbatha, who always wanted to take over the most coveted position within the church. The actor has not only embarrassed himself but also found himself on the wrong side of the law after a case was opened against him. The actor is yet to hand himself over to the police, but Shibe is now aware that he has been reported to law enforcement.

It is a common tradition among celebrities to sometimes hire cars to use at times. Sometimes it may be for clout, and other times because they are holding gigs in places away from home. This is what happened with Siyabonga when he hired a car from a fellow entertainer popularly known as Bhar. Legally named Sfiso Mshengu hired his vehicle out to the actor, but after the car was returned, he opened a case against the actor.

According to Sfiso, he rented out his Toyota Rumion, a seven-seater for Shibe to use. The agreement was that Siyabonga would use the car for a week and return it. After the week, Shibe refused to bring the car back, so Mshengu sent his tracking company to tow the van and bring it back to him. As if that was not enough, the car’s mileage had increased by 10 000km, had dents all over it and had missed service.

Siyabonga, who has refused to return the keys, was not communicating amicably with Sfiso. This forced the latter to open a case against him for using his car without permission. The case was opened at Durban Central police station, where Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed the claim. It is still under investigation, but both parties have said their sides of the story.

Siyabonga Shibe’s comments on the case

Mshengu had intended to rent his car to celebrities coming in for Durban July these past weeks. However, he could not do that as Siyabonga refused with the vehicle. Shibe was shocked that Bhar had opened a case against him as he said he would give him his keys back. He states that they did not have a deadline when he borrowed the car and intended to have it for a month. When asked about the dents, Siyabonga denied causing them and claimed he gave Bhar the contacts of the person who dented the car.
