THE tombstone of the late Mzansi soccer star Senzo Meyiwa is still not restored after the South African Football Association (Safa) in KZN promised to do it in three months.
The association told Daily Sun in May that it’ll restore the tombstone in three months’ time.

The tombstone at Heroes Acre in Chesterville, Durban, was vandalised by the unknown people in December 2020. The thugs also vandalised the tombstone of apartheid era journalist Nat Nakasa, which was installed and unveiled on Saturday.

KZN Safa spokesman Kwenza Ngwenya said that they haven’t forgotten about the installation of the tombstone.

He said the delay was caused by the floods that happened in KZN in April.
“It’s still going to be installed. We are committed in our promise. And we are going to keep it. This job is not easy. We want it to be perfect in doing it,” said Ngwenya.
“We understand that Senzo was the treasure of the nation. That’s why we committed ourselves in giving him the honour of re-installing his tombstone. We will do it, and the re-installation is near. We have to be patient about it.”

He insisted that security will be tightened at the cemetery once the tombstone is installed.
Senzo’s brother, Sifiso Meyiwa, said that they were focusing on the trial in North Gauteng High Court.
“We are still focusing on Senzo’s murder trial. Maybe we will look at the installation of his tombstone after the trial. But we believe that Safa will keep the promise,” said Sifiso. – Daily Sun
