Stilo Magolide Responds To AKA’s Remarks That Amapiano Will Not Survive 10 Years. The SA hip hop and Amapiano arguments do not appear to be moving toward consensus. The arrival of the Amapiano wave has given rise to the belief that South African hip hop is losing ground after dominating the country’s music scene for ten years.

AKA emerged as one of the SA rappers who came out and defended the SA hip hop genre amid claims that Amapiano is now the real deal in South Ah. The father of one remarked that SA hip hop has been around for a while and questioned whether Amapiano will ever attain the same level of success as SA hip hop.

“Amapiano is South African music so it’s okay but at the end of the day hip hop has been here for like 20 years. Piano you can have one, let’s see if you here at year 10,” said AKA. During an interview on MyDM Podcast, Stilo Magolide was asked to share his thoughts on AKA’s remarks towards the Amapiano longevity.

In response to AKA’s comments, Stilo brought up how when hip hop first began, SA rappers were told they wouldn’t succeed with their American way of life. “That’s what they said about hip hop, when hip hop started they said you guys are not gonna do it, like you guys with your baggy pants and American accent you won’t last,” Stilo Magolide said.

Stilo continued by saying that the early hostility toward South African hip hop inspired them to broaden the genre by establishing a way of life through many channels. “From that, we created a lifestyle with the basketball tournaments, we empowered a lot of kids, we save a lot of lives with this hip hop thing and Mapiano is saving a lot of lives,” he added.

There has been a massive exodus amongst SA rappers joining the Amapiano movement and some have become permanently Amapiano cats, with the likes of Focalistic and Young Stunna amongst the genre’s biggest stars.
