Being in a relationship or marriage with the person you are head-over-heels in love with for a long time comes with sorrow when that person you are crazy in love with passes on. There is no right way in which you can cope with such a loss. If screaming makes you feel better, scream and if being around people who are close to your heart does the trick, then be around them.

For Connie Ferguson, losing her soulmate is still something that’s hard to get over. She and her late husband were planning to renew their vows before he died from Covid-19 related complications on 30 July 2021. They were going to be celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.

In an interview with Dineo Ranaka, Connie revealed that on the 30th of July she went to check up on Shona in hospital and they had a nice chat. Little did she know was that it was going to be his last day on earth. “We had this dance planned for our 20th anniversary. I remember when he was in hospital, I kept on reminding him that he owes me a dance. Everything didn’t pan out that day”, she said.

There is a famous saying by Francois Hougaard which says, “it’s never nice to lose someone close to you, unfortunately, life goes on and we have to make peace with it and move on”. Another one by Sonali Bendre says, “life goes on, and one should look ahead, not backward”. If only it was just as easy as the way the two authors expressed, it.

When you lose the person, you were head-over-heels in love with, you can contract depression because of the melancholy that comes after losing that person. To ease up the pain you have to go for therapy and talk to the people that cares about you or even strangers. Bottling your feelings will cause more problems for you in the long run.

As for Connie Ferguson, her birthdays will no longer be the same now that the person who was the first one to text, post on social media and bestowed her with luxurious timeless gifts is no more. May Shona Ferguson continue resting in peace.
